Among the leading European pet food manufacturers, our client develops, manufactures and conditions dry and wet high added value food products for dogs and cats. SPC helped this client in the implementation of their MES (Manufacturing Execution System) application on an ultra-modern and entirely automated site.
Keeping one step ahead
Our client’s site is fitted with equipment having state-of-the-art technology. It has a very high production rate of about 600 million conditioned units per year. Due to competition i.e. with respect to countries with lower labor costs, our client is committed to ever-greater automation of its production tool. MES is at the heart of this challenge as it is gives excellent leverage for better performance, driving the ERP towards automation thus revealing the efficiency of the lines.
AGILE implementation of Simatic IT
The first step in planning enabled the functional needs to be prioritized and the roadmap of the project to be constructed.
3 main principles were defined as being essential : performance, piloting and traceability.
The Siemens Simatic IT solution was implemented by SPC according to an iterative process repeating the steps « functional pilot » then « deployment ».
To address the client‘s requirements, SPC gave particular care to the ergonomics in order to deliver quality User Experience.
Production operators, the main actors in global performance
Implementation of the MES tool enriched the operator’s work by providing them with data in context, at the right time and place, thus freeing up valuable time which had previously been « lost » in recording data and doing manual controls.
The operator could now focus on higher value tasks, and become proactive in their work environment. A successful approach where the technology supports the organizational challenge and also helps the operators enter the era of Industry 4.0 !
