DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

A major challenge

Companies in the industrial sector plan to invest more than 900 billion dollars by 2020 in their digitalization transformation. This figure seems incredibly high but it reflects the challenge of Industry 4.0 in the global economy in the next few years. This investment will in fact enable on average 2.9% additional income to be generated and a reduction in costs in the order of 3.6%.

Investment in digitalization transformation will generate, on average,
2.9% additional income and a reduction in costs in the order of 3.6%.

How? It is achieved through increasingly closer convergence of production machines, the digital environment and products. The industrial system is becoming interconnected which ensures more reliable, efficient, economical, personalized and finally, more sustainable production.

The investment in the next few years will specifically focus on the installation of « intelligent » production systems, « data analytics », communication/collaboration platforms and augmented reality.

More efficient production

Digitalization often rhymes with transformation of customer relations. This part of the digitalization is naturally visible and eminently strategic. Although the industrial part is certainly less well known to the wider public, it is just as strategic for companies. We talk about Industry 4.0  or the smart industry, i.e. the connected industry. This approach is already a reality, and will be even more so in the future. Industry 4.0 integrates more robotics, systems capable of anticipating risks on a production line, the possibility of sharing data in real time over the whole of the value chain or even additive manufacturing. It also enables more efficient cooperation between the different services in a company as well as with suppliers and clients. Industry 4.0 must increase the competiveness of production sites both globally and durably.

Pave the way to innovation

Digitalization opens new doors for industrialists and offers a bright future for those who have made the right choices. Through digitalization, innovation pathways are revised. In addition, « Data analytics » allows continuous improvement of the company’s offers and services as a function of the precise and ever-changing needs of the end clients. The collection and analysis of client data will be an integral part of the decision process for 80% of French managers in 2020.

To address these challenges, industries must accompany their employees towards new jobs and new work methods. They must also inject a new dynamism, conveying an alternative enterprise culture i.e. one of permanent innovation.

Reinventing the business model and work organization

The fourth industrial revolution is in progress. The industry of the future will smile upon those who succeed in their digitalization transformation, i.e. those who have anticipated and seen themselves in this new industrial business model, those who have decided not to have this digital transition forced on them but who have engaged in a new approach which may potentially disrupt their business but bring them closer to their clients and always in harmony with their needs and expectations.

The digitalization transformation introduces digital technologies in the company’s core, but it is not limited to a simple technological dimension. People are the primary concern and no digitalization project can be successful without a radical adjustment to the work organization. New ways of working, cooperating, and sharing information and knowledge are emerging and must be supported in a digitalization project which in the end is as much cultural and organizational as technological.

SPC’s teams of multidisciplinary experts (industrial organization, business, industrial Information System, cyber security, quality etc.) are there to help you. They are an excellent source of ideas and proposals and ready to listen to your wishes and expectations, and so will be able to accompany you in a way that is totally adapted to your projects and business constraints. They will guide you to the best options and help in their implementation both technologically and in human terms. With one goal: a successful digital transition.
